Project: An automatic test unit for fire sprinkler systems

According to Government statistics for 2011-12, there were 67,600 building fires in the UK in a 12-month period, 312 of which resulted in fatalities. Automatic sprinkler systems save lives, and drastically reduce the damage which would otherwise be caused.

However, such systems are often only tested annually, leaving considerable scope for potentially serious faults to go undetected.

With this in mind, the proprietor of a specialist Fire Protection company approached us with an idea which would enable sprinkler systems to be automatically tested on a regular basis, without the occupants even knowing that it is happening. If a test fails, it raises a fault alarm, so that the necessary repairs can be carried out without delay.

We designed a Control Unit to his specification which is now keeping people in domestic and residential properties safe all over the UK.
